About Damascus

Why Damascus matters

After Ashura, the women and children of the Prophet’s family were taken as captives to Kufa and then to Damascus. In Yazid’s court, Sayyida Zaynab (AS) and Imam Zayn al-Abidin (AS) spoke openly about what had happened at Karbala. [WikiShia] [WikiShia]

The best-known site associated with Sayyida Zaynab’s burial is in the town now called al-Sayyida Zaynab, about ten kilometres south of the old city. Damascus is a separate journey from Iraq and is not part of the Iraq driving plans. [WikiShia]
