Significance
Hani ibn Urwa al-Muradi, head of the Banu Murad, was a companion of Imam Ali (as) and fought at Jamal and Siffin. When ʿUbayd Allah ibn Ziyad arrived in Kufa, Hani’s house became the centre of Muslim ibn Aqil’s mission. [WikiShia] [The History of al-Ṭabarī]
He was beheaded on Ibn Ziyad’s orders on 8 Dhu al-Hijja 60 AH, after the killing of Muslim ibn Aqil. Imam Hussain (as) received the news on the road to Kufa, wept, recited the istirjaʿ and asked God’s mercy for him. [WikiShia] [The History of al-Ṭabarī]
Before you go
The shrine is part of the Great Mosque of Kufa complex, so visitors usually see it together with the shrines of Muslim ibn Aqil and al-Mukhtar al-Thaqafi. [WikiShia] [WikiShia]
