The journey to Khurasan
The caliph al-Ma’mun summoned him from Medina to Merv. The route recorded in the Atlas of Shi‘a passes through Basra, Ahvaz, Yazd, Neyshabur and Tus, and many places along it are still remembered for his stay. [WikiShia]
He died in Tus in 203 AH; Shia sources hold that al-Ma’mun had him killed. He was buried there, in what is now Mashhad. [WikiShia] [WikiShia]
